Meet The Distiller
Michael
In 1997 the last whisky distillery in New Zealand was closed down and the hundreds of barrels of Cask Strength whisky was auctioned off or mothballed. In 2010, we bought the last 80,000 litres in 443 barrels from what had previously been stored in an old airplane hangar. The whisky now resides in the towering seaside bonds store in Oamaru. These are exceptionally rare drams from what was once the world’s southern-most distillery.
Joerg
Distilled in Queenstown, New Zealand, Broken Heart’s award-winning spirits are created with the purest water sourced directly from Paradise in the Mt Aspiring National Park. Made with 11 natural botanicals, and locally sourced organic fruit, each bottle is lovingly and sustainably hand produced.
Richard
When distiller Richard Wilson and his family moved to the stunning Sandymount estate on the Otago Peninsula, the idea of Sandymount Distillery was conceived.
With spring water bubbling to the surface just up the hill and an abundance of native flora outside the door, Richard decided that this location was perfect for the distillery he has since built.

Otago Festival is R18.
No children please, it's an adult-only event.
We aims to promote responsible drinking to create a mini festival environment that everyone can enjoy. Plenty of food, tonics and other non-alcoholic beverages will be available. Please don’t drink and drive, there are public transport options near our events and taxis or Uber are just a phone call or tap away.
The No8 team will happily assist with phone numbers for safe transport options and information whenever needed.
